During the research and experimentation that went on in the secret lab in Perfection Valley, an incredible breakthrough was made in the genetic division; a mutagenic compound was developed that allowed the blending of DNA from different species. The scientists named this compound Mixmaster. The compound was truly amazing as it could combine non-human DNA from any and all species. Its ability to do so was literally without limits except for human DNA, which was unaffected by it. This was the sole limit placed upon it by its creators. It could combine DNA in ways that were impossible naturally. It could even combine DNA across kingdoms, producing animal/plant hybrids. It could also cause atavism, reverting organisms to earlier, even prehistoric forms.

Proudfoot quickly saw the potential in Mixmaster for military applications, especially since the war in Vietnam was going so badly, and instructed the scientists, including Cletus Poffenberger, to develop hybrid animals that could be used for combat. Creatures like Project 4-12 that could be used to hunt the Vietcong at night and route them out of the tunnels in the provinces by day. However these endeavors never bore fruit as the government closed down Proudfoot's operation when it was discovered they were selling their inventions to the enemy and the lab and everything in it was either seized or destroyed. Mixmaster, or rather a barrel of it, was left behind most likely forgotten and managed to survive the lab being buried for many years.

This was however not the end for Mixmaster, which quickly made its presence known in Perfection Valley in the episode Ghost Dance where it infected a food preserving bacteria experiment that had been shelved creating an even more deadly strain. It was theorized by Cletus that this happened because the canister's container either became damaged or eventually broke causing Mixmaster to come in contact with the microbe and blend it with another bacteria that was also stored in the lab. There was also a gene bank in the lab that contained samples from many different species which would allow the chemical to create a number of exotic creations. The microbe creation eventually escaped through an air vent into a mine where it began to feed off the surrounding moisture and the moisture of any animal that came near.

The microbe was eventually contained by the people of Perfection, but as Cletus explained that wasn't the end of it. This was because all living things shed dead cells and the microbe cloud was no different and the mine floor would be littered with these cells. As a result any insect that would ingest those cells would end up having Mixmaster in its DNA which would then travel up the food chain into larger animals depending on what ate what. While the natural barriers of the valley would ensure the safety of the outside world the valley itself would now find itself home to any number of hybrid animals has Cletus put it such as crickets with scorpion tails or Gilla monsters with bat wings. Cletus and Burt believe that 99% of the creatures created by Mixmaster will die off at birth, but 1% will survive and the valley faces these mutations that do survive. The compound has also been shown to infect Perfection's water table as water stolen from the valley contained the compound. Its creations carry it in their blood and if killed so they bleed, it can spread that way too. The people chasing the Giant Shrimp faced this problem as the Shrimp was out of the valley and they had to kill it without letting it bleed and spread Mixmaster through the resevior it was heading to.

One of the most leathel creatures encontered by the people of the valley was the Hydro swarm or the "ghost" has Rosaleata called it when she saw it in its home in the mines near the valley. The creature was created when Mix master came in contact with some hydrofilic microbes that where part of a shelved experiment to create an organic food preserver and fused them with with another deep sea microbe. This new creature was stronger than it predasessor able to resist the compound desighned to destroy the original and had a hunger for fluid of any kind. It escaped through a ventilation duct in the lab and found its way in to nearby mine where it fed on the surrounding moisture and any unfortunate creature that came in its path. When it attacked some people who whent to survay the mine Burt and the others investigated and discovered the creature barly escaping with there lives thanks to Burt figuring what the animal wanted by distracting it by splashing a wall with water. The goverment soon arived and tried to deal with only to fail because they thought they where dealing with the old experiment. It took the combined efforts of the govermont and Gummer's group to beat the animal who was captured and taken away by the goverment for study.

This creature was a truly bizzare organism mostly in the sense that it wasn't an animal at all, nor was it plant either but rather a bit of both and all in all it was deadly. Back when the Mixmaster compound was still in the lab it found its way into the botanical division. Though all of the plants had been dead for years Mixmaster was still able to aquire their DNA wich included a number of rare and exotic plants. It then mixed their DNA with that of some venomous animals like spitting cobras and so on and ended up creating a carnivorous plant. The plant colonized an isolated area in the valley and remained mostly undisturbed until it began to spread out along the valley floor growing pressure pads here and there that released a powerfull acid onto any animal that stepped on them and then absorbed the nutrients from the remains. The plant was eventualy discovered when it attacked a pair of scientists that came with a government team who where there studying Mixmaster's effects on the local environment. The situation while dangerous to begin with before the plants areal spread was mapped became even more dangerous when it was found that the plant was about to experience sead-ejection meaning that the plant would spread everywhere. Burt and the gang teamed up with the scientists to create a powerfull pesticide that would kill the plant and set out to kill the plant by injecting it's trunk with it which would spread the poison throughout the whole organism. This was far easier than first thought when the job was given to Larry who's shear dumb luck allowed him to walk through the plant area withought setting off the pads.

This creature was not born in the valley but nearby in a resort created by Melvin and it apeared to have a grudge against Melvin. The creature was created because Melvin borrowed (stole) water from a lake in the valley; unawhare the water had been contaminated with Mixmaster. It should be noted in this case Mixmaster didnt create a hybrid in the regular sense but rather it devoled a local shrimp in to a prehistoric form. This allowed the creature to survive when Melvin atempted to clense the lake of anything he thought would "pollute" the lake and had the unforseen side effect of killing almost everything in the lake robbing the shrimp of its food and seriously ticking it off.

"Mixmaster" is a chemical compound used for DNA splicing that was seen in Tremors: The Series.

Description

Here are just a few of the creations of Mixmaster:

Trivia

 • As there is no mention of Mixmaster in Tremors 5, it's likely that the problem it presented died off over the decade between Back to Perfection and Bloodlines.
 • Graboids are unaffected by Mixmaster, as El Blanco did not mutate despite living in a valley satuated with it.
 • Despite the overall unique chance Mixmaster could have given the 5th and 6th films to include monsters other than the Graboids, it was completely ignored.
